About Kingswood-Oxford
Kingswood-Oxford is a small day school, and what sets us apart is our
commitment to the fundamental acts of knowing, caring, challenging, and
communicating.
Relationships are the foundation for our teaching. As such,
we work hard to know our students. Because we define teaching broadly with
teachers serving as advisors, coaches, and activity advisors, we have many
opportunities to come to know our students; they, in turn, have the chance
to come to know their teachers beyond the classroom. Our concept of knowing
is more than familiarity; it is, rather, a deep sense of and appreciation
for what makes each student "tick."
An essential byproduct of knowing our students is caring. We care by working
with students on their papers and projects beyond what occurs in the classroom.
We care by simply stopping to chat and meaning it when we ask, "how
are you doing?" We care by attending concerts, plays, or games. We
care by the passion we bring to our teaching and by being tenacious in
our efforts on behalf of our students.
An important element of caring has
to do with challenging our students. Expecting the best from our students,
in all that they do, is the height of caring. By challenging our students
we encourage them to venture beyond their comfort zones and to broaden
their areas of interest and expertise — to
grow!
While relationships are the foundation, communication is essential
for our efforts to take hold. We talk to students and parents, and we listen
to understand.
I encourage you to learn more about the opportunities that
await students at Kingswood-Oxford. We hope you will choose to visit us
and see how Kingswood-Oxford can make a difference in your student's life.
